Our first recording of Angus Og appears on our Break In The Clouds CD, but this second recording is closer to the original conception of the song - sparse loneliness with echoes of the ancient Celtic love god half-hallucinated in the mist.
Having recorded the basic tracks, we had the idea to illustrate the story by filling the background with actual sounds of a lake at twilight. So the adventure began…
We live at the foot of a mountain in the Santa Cruz coastal range. Near the top of that mountain is a nature preserve with a lake. Phil drove up one evening and made the short hike to the lake with a stereo microphone and portable recorder. He set up on a dock jutting out over the lake, walked away and waited quietly as the sun went down. The birds sang beautifully. Unfortunately, so did the airplanes, automobiles and a few motorcycles! Out of a 25 minute recording there were only 4 minutes of pure nature sounds but, with careful editing, that was enough to complete the version of Angus Og that we are now making available to you.
